Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn’t [some song] part of Woodshedr?
We are continually working with publishers to obtain the necessary rights to include popular music from jazz and the American songbook in Woodshedr. We’ve probably already thought of and requested permission to use the song you’re thinking of. The best way to find out when new songs are available is to join our mailing list.

When will Woodshedr be available for iPhone and iPod touch?
We wanted to provide the best experience possible when releasing Woodshedr. Showing sheet music effectively on a screen as small as an iPhone is a challenge. We are looking at ways to make this an enjoyable experience and, if we figure it out to our satisfaction, we’ll release a version of the iPhone and iPod touch at that point.

When I record a performance with Woodshedr the sound is delayed or distorted. What’s up with that?
Recording without using headphones can be problematic as it produces a delay. For best results, we recommend you use the internal micrphone and a separate pair of headphones or ear buds. This will minimize any room sounds and for most potentially high gain instruments (trumpet, sax, etc.) this should work great. Using Apple's earpods with built-in microphone will produce okay results, but not as good as the built-in mic with dedicated headphones or ear buds just mentioned. If you'd like to use a 3rd party microphone we recommend the Apogee MiC, which features an adjustable gain setting. If you set the gain to low and play closer to the mic you can reduce any room sound that may be making your recordings to a bit too distant. If you have a great way to record that isn’t mentioned here, please let us know!

We will be accepting submissions from composers very soon. It is our hope that as the Woodshedr catalog grows we will be able to represent new music in addition to the classics already available. You can subscribe to our mailing list to find out when we start accepting submissions.

The licensing for lyrics is separate from the type of license we're currently required to obtain (a sync license). Because of the extra logistics involved, we don't have any plans to introduce lyrics in Woodshedr. However, there are plenty of freely available resources out there and with a bit of searching it should be eays to find lyrics to any of the songs you see in Woodshedr.

Why should I use Woodshedr instead of something like iReal Pro?
Woodshedr isn’t meant to to replace an app like iReal Pro. Instead, it’s intended to give you a better experience for a much narrower set of songs. We believe that the quality of the experience matters and that being able to play with real musicians is the next step beyond playing with a MIDI rhythm section.

Why doesn't Woodshedr have [some specific feature]?
We have big plans for the future of Woodshedr. Just because a certain feature isn’t currently part of the app doesn't mean we haven’t thought about it. If you have a feature suggestion you can contact us.
